Women & Girls badminton

Badminton that makes room for women and girls

Kirsty runs women's and girls' only sessions across the week: a friendly, supportive space to learn, get fit, and grow in confidence, whatever your level or experience.

A space made on purpose

Women are under-represented across sport, and fewer role models means fewer girls picking up a racket. Kirsty is changing that locally: making sure every woman gets to be a real part of the session, and championing the social, health and wellbeing side of the game as much as the winning.

It's about longevity, too. The aim isn't a one-off try; it's players who keep enjoying sport for life. And it's a genuinely great way to meet like-minded people while you improve.

The gap we're helping to close

Why women's and girls' sessions matter - the numbers behind the mission.

  • 1.9m

gender gap in badminton participation across the UK - roughly a 1:2 female-to-male ratio.

  • 75%

of women and girls say they'd like to be more active and play more sport.

  • 35%

of Badminton England members are female; just 30% of registered coaches are women.

  • 4%

of all sports-media coverage is dedicated to women's sport.

Inspired by This Girl Can, Sport England's campaign to show that sport can be a fun, enjoyable part of every woman's life - whatever her body image, ability or experience.

What people say

Amazing to see so many females playing at the first ever women's and girls' satellite badminton club in Bournemouth. It was great to have been a part of it.
